Monta Ellis Suffers Severe High Ankle Sprain, Needs Surgery, Out 3-4 Months

Wow looks like nobody can question the Maggettee signing now.

    Aug 27, 2008 3:04 PM EST

Monta Ellis will be out for at least three months, possibly four, after suffering a severe high ankle sprain in Jackson, Mississippi, his hometown.

Ellis was scheduled to undergo surgery on his left ankle in Alabama on Wednesday, according to team sources.

Ellis signed a six-year, $66 million contract extension from the Warriors just a few weeks ago.

Maggette is nothing thank goodness that got Marcus Williams.

Ellis was going to switch to PG this year. Now Williams will start and they have Mags, Jax and Azibukie and Belinelli at the 2/3

This is probaly a much bigger deal than it first appears also as having a full training camp as a PG would have been key for Ellis. Now he's going to come in late trying to learn a new positon, new teamates and recover from an injury (espcially for a guy who depends on quickness)

What does this have to do with the Maggette signing DMWT? They're totally non correllating.

Mullin just said Marcus Williams will start and they're looking at Livingston tomorrow as a possible back-up. Under no circumstances will Maggette play point guard. ???

exactly. Maggette is similar to S. Jackson. If Jackson got hurt, then DMWT's analysis would be correct?

Monta Ellis = very athletic player, great offense.  no defense?

Corey Magette = very athletic player, great offense. no defense?

Don Nelson game plan = lots of athletic players, great offense. no defense?

Monta Ellis = Corey Magette ... regardless of position?  is that his logic?

Monta Ellis is a SG. Mags can play that position.

I don't think Monta Ellis has ever played the point in his entire life. Sorry but that would be a disaster waiting to happen. I guess in that sense this injury could be a blessing in disguise. Hopefully they do sign Livingston and either Marcus or Shaun can emerge as a legit PG for this squad.

Stephen Jackson should play PG to diversify his portfolio to try and not be the 4th highest paid player on the team.

lol, this forum is on crack

All people want to do is find one statement they disagree with and jump on it

Even if Monta was going to play a lot of PG, he was still going to play some SG, and there's no doubt that getting Corey helps make up for the loss of Ellis. With no Baron or Ellis in the back court the Warriors will not score as easily as they did last season. Corey helps.

I'm not saying Ellis is a point guard, but that's what Chris Mullin keeps saying. He built his roster around the idea that Monta would play the point - to the point of not even having a great back-up plan. Now his non-back-up plan is starting.

To be fair to Marcus Williams, he never really got a shot at proving himself behind Jason Kidd and Devin Harris.

And IF (its a huge if, tht injury was brutal) Shaun Livingston can recover, then he could be a pretty good plan as well.

Either of them, IMO are better PGs than Monta Ellis.

Chris Mullin has said multiple times lately that Monta Ellis is the Warriors PG now. I wasn't aware you know more than him. Sorry!!!!!!!

And I'm not saying that Monta Ellis is their full-time SG. I'm sure the team does plan to play him a lot at PG. Probably not to distribute the ball though, he's a scoer. They will not have even close to the scoring punch they had available last season with Baron and Monta. They will desperately need scoring help, and Corey helps deliver that.

In losing Monta they did not lose a gifted playmaker and leader who makes his teammates better. They 're losing a scorer. And that is what Mags is.  Even if Monta was going to be their starting PG - which I'm sure he would have been, does anyone doubt that he'd still play some SG? Does anyone doubt that Mags is going to be a much greater help than Matt Barnes would have been to make up for the scoring they're losing with ellis out??

Yeah - you misunderstood me. I didn't say they weren't planning on him being the PG. That's exactly what they're planning. What I'm saying is that's a ridiculous plan if you're hoping to make the playoffs . . .
