Try not to spam eh Greenteam?

As far as the economy, yeah, it is tough right now, but it is a lot harder to pin that at the feet of any one entity. Presidents tend to take far more blame for economic downturns, and credit for economic upturns, than they deserve. Besides which, don't we have Democrats controlling both houses of congress now?

If something will bite McCain it will be the war. The economy is a great concern, true, but I am not sure how Senator's Clinton and Obama and successfully lay the blame for this at the feet of Senator McCain.

Given the economic situation in this country, it's pretty stupid to want to continue an unnecessary war.  That money would be better spent here.  That's how they'll get Mclovin on the economy.

I don't know why my earlier post got broken up into one word additions.   weird.

Republicans are primarily responsible for the economic downturn.   We had six straight years with no checks and balances (and 2 with only a timid check), during which the Bush administration ran up the tab with record spending while taking in less revenue, giving republican pork up the wazoo, no bid contracts for cronies, corruption overlooked, lighter taxes on the wealthy corporations, very little investment in infrastructure, environmental protections abandoned, government services abandoned, key government positions purposely filled with incompetents.    Huge tax refunds to the wealthy were actually paid with money borrowed from China to be repaid by future generations.   Some weak dems played along with this, but the repubs were driving the whole thing.   plus the war is obscenely expensive and pointless.   Our trade deficit is obscene.   Lower middle class homeowners were fleeced into overvaluing their homes, pension plans into which workers contributed their whole lives are bailing on their obligations, the dollar is weakening daily.   The middle class is sinking into the lower class.   And the Republicans want to take away the social security net and let people invest on their own.   Investing in the stock market is gambling, and the house and serious players are the ones who win out.   Average people should not be gambling with their small retirement safety net.

Huge wealth has been consolidiated in a very small pct. of the population, while most people are getting poorer.    It is 90% the fault of Republicans.   We have to clean house and get rid of all the incompetence.

That's true.  But it's another thing to get that across to the voters.  For decades, Republican administrations have run up huge deficits, but when the election comes they just keep repeating the mantra "tax and spend Democrats" and the voters go to the polls believing the Republicans are fiscally conservative.  The Democrats have to use messages like "Are you better off now than you were eight years ago?" and remind voters of Republican boondoggles like the Alaskan bridge to nowhere.

It's tought to get that to the voters, because the voters are generally stupid.  They don't have the time to do their own research.  They want to get their information from soundbites and tv news segments.  They'll take whatever the shows stuff down their throats in a few minutes and run with it.

Politics is dirty business.  The Clintons just tried to downplay Obama's teaching at a University, saying he embellished about being a professor.  It's no longer about what a candidate can do, but about what dirt they can dig up on the other candidate.  It's ridiculous, but people buy into that.

Hell, there's still a bunch of idiots that think Obama is a Muslim, or that his pastor hates America.

Chalk me up as one of the idiots then. I grasp that Obama is not a muslim. I am not so sure about his pastor hating America. You don't ask for the God you (claim to) worship to damn something you love.

I should clarify, btw, that I don't necessarily hold the words to Rev. Wright against Obama. I understand that Obama, as a black man, is part of a culture he no more entire agrees with than I agree with say, white supremacy.

You have never been mad at one of your parents or another loved one and said "damn you"?

If he "hates America," then why did he serve honorably for the marines? All he said was that racism in this country exists and that our foreign policy has killed many innocent people. Both of which are true.

I am sick and fucking tired of this idea that if you disagree with the government policies, then you "hate America" and should leave the country. America was founded by people escaping an oppressive government. The Bill of Rights ensures him his right to speech. This whole attacking him as a person instead of trying to refute his comments with a logical argument is disgusting to me.

looks like Rev. wright is livin' the American dream.....by moving into a 93% white neighborhood in a 10,000 square foot mantion!

    http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2008/03/reverend_wrights_new_digs.html

    Reverend Wright's New Digs

    Ethel Fenig
Clad in  dashiki clerical vestments, Senator Barack Obama's  (D-IL) pastor and mentor screamed about the evil of white folks and middle classness while promoting a black centered theology, all to the shouting and clapping approval of a large and growing congregation.

So where his new 10,340 square foot, $1.6 million house being built?

Wouldn't you know, the demographics of Tinley Park, IL,
a suburb of Chicago,  which will soon count Reverend Jeremiah Wright Jr as a resident.. Steve Gilbert of Sweetness & Light reports:
The racial makeup of the village was 93.16% White, 1.92% African American, 0.13% Native American, 2.38% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 1.11% from other races, and 1.27% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 4.13% of the population.

The top five ancestries reported in Tinley Park as of the 2000 census were Irish (25.5%), German (23.1%), Polish (19.7%), Italian (14.3%) and Dutch (5.3%).[5]

The residents' incomes are solidly middle class

The median income for a household in the village was $61,648, and the median income for a family was $71,858. Males had a median income of $50,595 versus $34,401 for females. The per capita income for the village was $25,207. About 1.1% of families and 2.5% of the population were below the poverty line, including 2.5% of those under age 18 and 3.6% of those age 65 or over.

Not that Reverend Wright is a hypocrite or a preacher who doesn't practice what he preaches of course.

WHO CARES IF HE IS MOVING TO A WHITE NEIGBORHOOD?

It is racism. The media is trying to scare white people by saying that he and his "crazy ideologies" are moving to a neighborhood near you.

This whole playing his comments over and over in a loop is racism. It is so white people can look at this black man and condemn him over and over.

After 9/11, Jerry Falwell (who is a complete dumbass) blamed 9/11 on the feminists and gays (which makes zero sense whatsoever) on his TV show, and he does not get this much airtime. Wright blames 9/11 on American foreign policy (which is the truth). ITS RACISM.

I'm not sure I agree with this, or if I do I don't think it has to be that way.  I think that a lot of people hold childlike and simple opinions on issues because the politicians and the media speak to them like they are children.  If people had more exposure to nuanced opinions that require some actual thought to break down and comprehend, I think they would be more capable of understanding them and forming them.

And that's the reason I like Obama so much.  Even if he doesn't do it all the time, every now and then he shrugs off protocol and speaks to the world as though we are all equals.

I wish I could agree with you man, but how do you explain someone like John Kerry getting swiftboated while the guy who never went to combat comes across as the candidate better equipped to deal with a war?

It's already clear you're only going off of clips you've heard on the news, because his sermons aren't as bad as those cherry picked clips.  And it's also clear you have no idea who Rev. Wright is.  Dude was in the Marines, he was a part of the medical team that cared for Lyndon B Johnson, and he served this country proudly, more than most Republicans in office today.

I am not buying the line that because someone served as a marine, etc, that it is ok for him to say whatever he wants. Certain lines you just don't cross.

That being said, I do not judge the Rev Wright--not as a person, not as an American. As an influence on a wanna-be president, however, I find him unfortunate. I have already stated elsewhere I do not judge Obama by him.
