A battered and bruised Victoria Lindsay will not be returning to public school following an incident in which six other girls have been accused of videotaping a beating of the 16-year-old Mulberry High cheerleader.

All have been arrested and charged with felony battery and false imprisonment.

The single adult, Schumaker, 18, was taken to the Polk County Jail and has since been released on bail.

The Sheriff's Office said after the 35-minute beating, Lindsay was put into a car and taken to South Lakeland, near the intersection of Lakeland Highlands Road and County Road 540A.

Mayes, Hardcastle, and Nichols, who deputies said forced Lindsay into a vehicle and drove her around, will also be charged with felony kidnapping, sheriff's officials said.

Judd has asked the State Attorney's Office to charge all the teens as adults.

"But that's not my decision," he said.

 If that's an "animalistic" beating then I have taken plenty in my day.  It's just a bunch of not tough girls bullying another girl.  Obviously, I hope they get charged to the full extent of the law because those girls are losers but there doesn't look to be much damage.  A lot of screeching, middling punches and loser girls being loser girls.

I don't disagree with any of the above.  I just think that this situation probably happens an unpleasant amount of times where it is not broadcast on youtube.  But, because these girls seem to be so cavalier about the whole incident that I would love to see them get legitimate time.

Unrelated, how about that one kid's moustache in the mug shot?  That's big league.  I can respect any 17 year old white kid who can wear a moustache without laughing at himself.

The big thing is that they kidnapped her to do this, and wouldn't let her leave. This kind of gets into that scary "imprisonment" type situation where your victim is powerless and in your control, and anybody who thinks they have the right to imprison somebody and do this to them, is the kind of person that can kill in the same situation.

This type of mentality is absolutely horrific, and they deserve to go to real prison for it.

I have to point out the few times I can agree with doc. This is one of those times. It is scary what else they might do once they feel the right to control someone else like this. Made me sick to my stomach. 

Obviously, the worst of the beating did not appear on the released videotape. The part I saw looked like what was said earlier--a bunch of not-so-tough girls slapping another girl around.

The fact that they videotaped it reveals incredible stupidity, and makes you wonder if these youths are even rehabilitatable. Astonishing and sad how we as a society are declining........

I saw this on Nancy Grace while flipping channels, but apparently the girls were "laughing and having a good time" while in prison. They're going to try and prosecute all of them as adults...

Then one of the girls, while in jail that same night, asked one of the policemen if they were going to miss cheerleading practice the next day...I mean wow...these girls...

They said that they might charge them with a crap load of charges...assault, battery, kidnapping and more...
 

Did I hear right that Dr. Phil bailed one of the girls out so she could be on his show? Not sure if thats true or just a rumor........ Sad!

 Can't say it surprises me.  I agree with DJ and all the rest of the posters that think the book should be thrown at these losers.

As much as this sickens me ( something a little similar happened locally in a mob beating scenario although with kids slightly older) and I want ti see punishment for these morons I think charging them as adults would do more long term harm than good. I cannot and will not excuse what they did but they are young and its been shown that people in a mob situation like this do tend to behave differently. Once again I'm not minamizing what they did..BUT I think that there is a chance in this situation to save at least some of these kids. If you try them as adults and most imprtantly sentencve them as adults it certainly does send the message you want but I think if you put them in jail they are done for the rest of their lives. They will become lifetime criminals in and out of the system forever.

 Personally I feel it would be "justice" for the girl who was beaten. But it won't make her whole again and it won't be to the benifit of society as a whole to put them into a jail environment that will basically prevent them from ever turning things around. Its not my prefered solution but the ones that can't be saved are probly going to end up in jail eventually anyways. The ones that can might turn it around. In the end they will all end up where they should. it just might take a while

If you hit these youths hard, you might send a message to other young idiots who think this is cool behavior that oops, it is not, and you can mess your life up seriously doing this.

You're right of course... lengthy prison sentence is probably too much in the end... But the behavior is so outrageous. I bet their parents actually believe theyr'e decent kids at the core.

I think that's probably a safe bet. And who know, perhaps some of them are. Kids do crazy sh*t, and they often exhibit behaviors in groups that they wouldn't think of doing individually. It's going to be interesting to follow this case. Felony kidnapping and assault charges are pretty serious. Many states have imposed VERY harsh sentences, many with mandatory guidelines, in response to the increased number of child abductions in recent years. Putting these kids in prison for 15-20 years for something like this would be a travesty, IMO. Give 'em a year in lockup and endless hours of community service in battered women's shelters, soup kitchens, etc... These kids have obviously lived a life of priviledge and need to be given a harsh dose of reality, a.s.a.p..

I think a jail term as a message or deterrant to other youths not to lynch other kids would be mostly ineffective. At most it would probably remind the next violent group not to post the video on youtube where it can be used as evidence.

Crimes like this mob crimes, crimes of "passion" etc aren't detered by jail terms. At least not long term. These type of things tend to fade from memory fast especially when its not local to you.

I meant relatively speaking, obviously. Nobody will mistake these kids for Paris Hilton and her friends, but they're certainly not living in the inner city, or in rural Appalachia. Mulberry is a town of 3,500 people in Florida that's 80% white, with an unemployment rate <2%. That does constitute a life of privilege when compared to those in our society that truly are down and out. Forcing them to spend some time with those people might just wake them up to life outside their little suburban bubble.

 What this group of young adults did was a malicious act of violence that is gang/mob related. To think that they are a young group of privledge cheerleaders that shouldn't get the full extent of the law is laughable. What these hooligans did is unaceptable and should be punished and tried as such. The complete lack of respect shown by these young adults who range in the ages of 17 - 18 yrs of age should warrant a strong and firm punishment. One year of jail and community service is not enough and just shows them that they did in a way get away with their actions. It is obvious that this group of thugs is a threat to society at the current moment with a lack of respect for local civilians and the authority of the law.
