Yahoo reporting Maggette likely to sign w/ Spurs

Horrible news. Just terrible. He fits exactly what they need and they're good enough defensively to hide his weakness in that area. The teams are just loading up.

Are you surprised? I know I was surprised to hear all the talk about the Spurs' window closing and the big 3 getting older after the Lakers eliminated them. This is just Spurs management doing what they have always done best. Retool.

Nice very nice. He should be able to gets lost of Minutes at 2 and the 3. He can probably take over Finley's starting spot and allow Manu to go back to hios 6th man role. If Spurs had Mags there this year even able to add 12 ppg in playoffs when Manu was huirt its my opinion they would have won the series. The Spurs D was more than good enough holding LA 13 ppg under their season average but when Manu's ankle locked up and his scoring shut down Duncan and Parker didn't have enough to overcome that.

The Celtics have also spoken to Maggette.  In their case, he's probably their second choice after re-signing Posey.

When Maggette first got to the Clippers, he was talked about as being a solid defender.  If he goes to a solid defensive team like San Antonio or Boston, maybe they can get him back to giving a crap about that end of the floor.

Spurs need a big man more than another guard.

When matched up a healthy Laker team, the Laker big who isnt being guarded by Duncan should dominate.

    Gasol against Thomas? Ownage

     Bynum versus Thomas? Ownage

Plus Bynum is longer and bigger than Chandler who gave Duncan alot of trouble with his length.

In terms of a match up against the Lakers, I dont see this supposed signing as a big deal.

Interesting so why is it that PFs shot 37% vs Kurt Thomas but mr softy Gasol will "own" him?

Interesting that Oberto holds opposing PFs far below average FG% but Gasol will "own" him.

The Spurs held LA 13 ppg under their season Average they lost because they can't score enough when Manu was shut down (due to injury) While its always nice to have more bigs I think the evidence is pretty conclusive that the Spurs have 3 very good big man defenders (not just duncan0 and that they have only one creative wing scorer.

But hey be my guest here's the list of NBA free agents show me which difference maker big men are out there that they should spend the MLE on vs getting the wing scorer they proved they lack? http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?page=2008freeagents

BTW: If you say Jamal Magloire you are officially disqualified from the game Big Smile
