Confused [*-)] Is Roko Leni-Ukic Ready To Backup Jose?

I wonder how good he really is.  Hopefully he plays summer league so we can get an early idea of this skill level.

    My guess is no.

He's not really a true PG from what I see and read. He's more of a replacment for Delfino than a backup PG. I bet he gets SMOKED on defense in his first year by PGS. Not to say he'll never get it but in year one if he's trying to check NBA guards I think he's in for a rude awakening.

Its not like he dominated the Euroleague 13 ppg 3 apg and honestly even with the euro stinginess with giving out asssist stats he had far too many 0,1 or 2 assist games to lead me to think he can run an NBA offense. I have doubts about his NBA 3 point range at this time. I think the Raptors really need a veteran backup PG like Lue, Anthony Johnson or even a type like Vaughn to allow Ukic to learn the NBA game withoput the pressure of running the offense or checking PGs

Hopefully he'll get some minutes like Jose did in the past few years .... basically getting acclimated to the NBA game.  Gotta agree with another veteran PG ... and please lets get someone other than Derrick Martin.

Found a Youtube clip of him last fall in the pre-season game against Lottomatica Virtus Roma.

It seems like he did well against TJ Ford.

Not like Hassan Adams is going to steal minutes away from him.

I spoke to Garadini last year about Roko at one of the meet and greets and asked if he could see him playing some SG.  I was told there was no chance he plays anything other than PG because he can't shoot.  Hopefully his D and passing ability are pretty good because otherwise the Raps might be in trouble for about 10-15 minutes per game.  Then again, I think the Raps are going to use at least part of the MLE on a veteran PG.

Well he shoots the Euro-trey at around 35% so I guess that he's as good as Tony Parker from deep.  For some reason, he seems like he'll be as good as say an Alvin Williams.

who knows ... Calderon wasn't much of a shooter when he came to the Raptors ... and now he's pretty consistent on those open looks.   That's all I'll ask from a player .. to hit those open shots.   From the highlights .. I actually think he has the potential to be better than Calderon .....

He does seem to be more creative and able to get into the lane consistently from the highlights. Yes

I doubt his shot is much worse than Ford's if it's worse at all.  Really I think the key to Roko being a contributor to the team next season will be his defense and decision making.  If he can be a decent defender and simply find the open man he should be fine.
