    Duhon reaches agreement with Knicks

A verbal agreement, MLE for 2 years.

    http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3473845

It seems as if they're signing him with the intention of starting him.  Who'ada thunk the Knicks would overpay anybody?

At least it's for only 2 years.

Chris Duhon should be able to average 18 ppg 11 apg next year in Dantoni's system. Waht a bargin for less than 6 M a year!

If the Knocks plan to have him as their starting PG its going to be a long season in NY.

I understand taking the $ at his stage of a career. Too bad for the Magic as he would have been a nice backup

Meh, the $$ means little as long as the contract is only 2 years. I think they just want to make sure that they have someone decent until they try to make a huge splash in 2010.

Do we have any reason to think that the Knicks gave Duhon the whole MLE?  The ESPN story doesn't say that.  The only thing that suggests that is the Orlando paper reporting that Orlando offered $10 million for 3 years, while Duhon's agent said Orlando hadn't made an offer.  The reports I'd seen suggested the Knicks were offering Duhon $3 to 3.5 million a year.  A two-year deal for that kind of money sounds reasonable for Duhon.  Just having a guy who can make an entry pass to Curry and Randolph is a big deal for the Knicks.

Yeah, that's what I thought too. Either way, I don't think it makes a difference. Obviously would be nicer to have him for cheaper though, that way he can be used as a trade asset if needed.

Point guard Chris Duhon has agreed to sign with the Knicks.

Duhon will reportedly receive a two-year deal starting at the full mid-level exception. The total contract value will be approximately $12 million.

"I am just excited, I am ready to get to work for the Knicks," Duhon said. "It's a big stage, playing in New York. It's something every player in the NBA wants."

"Chris could have shopped himself around more, but in the end, he wanted a fit where he felt comfortable and he knew what kind of opportunity he would be getting," Duhon's agent, Kevin Bradbury, said. "He wasn't worried about trying to find more money on the market or anything like that. He wanted the right situation, and this just felt like the right situation."

From Sporting News via Realgm.  Anyways, the Espn link didn't mention the MLE.  My bad.

So Marbury is as good as bought out?

My take is Coach K gave Mike D the skinny on the guy and sold them they needed to get him. Coach K had him for 4 years. I think , if its 12 mil over 2 years , its over paid but who else could they have got that is a true PG? At least they are keeping it at 2 years. I have a feeling it is the full MLE because what else would you expect from NY?

I dont think so. I think Marbury and Duhon will share the PG duties at least until Feb. I think they are going to let Stephon come in to training camp and give him a chance.

If it's close to 12 million then it has to be the full MLE.  I don't mind, at least the Knicks have somebody who can make an entry pass and play defense.

Seems its not the full MLE according to Chicago tribune
Duhon agreed to a two-year, $6.5 million deal with the Knicks on Friday, ending his four-year run with the Bulls.

Who knows . Until ESPN reports the salary its anyone's guess. Seems $6.5 over 2 years makes a lot more sense and about matches what Orlando was willing to pay

Well, with this signing Duhon is magically going to become a 47% 3-pt shooter and 91% FT shooter. Good decision by Duhon.

Yep, better money and better chance of more PT . Like Duck_shoe said "at least he 'he'll pay some defense"

    Good signing by the Knicks!

Duhon isn't spectacular and likely won't put up huge numbers but he is a solid PG who won't make a lot of mistakes.  D'Antoni needs a PG he can count on to be his leader on the floor and it was clear nobody the Knicks had on their roster was that guy.
