Can Monta Ellis Play The PG?

     You better hope so-

Sources tell Janny Hu of the San Francisco Chronicle that Monta Ellis is on track for a multi-year deal/offer averaging more than $11 million a year.

Sure he can play PG. He just won't play it very well. He's a scorer. He doesn't appear to have the mentaility or the vison to run an aoffense rather than look for his own shot first  that's my observation.

82games.com numbers show that in the small time he played PG (12% of team minutes) he scored at a compeable or even better rate to when he played SG. That's great. Unfortunatley his assist to turnover ratio was barley over 1:1 which is dismal. He only averaged 5 assists per 48 minutes when he plyed PG which on a high paced team is once again dismal.

Baron Davis isn't exactly John Stockton but compared to Ellis he might be he averaged almost 2x the assists per 48 and fewer turnovers.

Maybe they can sign Tyronne Lue for his backup?

Ellis reminds me of a skinny Steve Francis as a PG.

Is an undersized SG really worth over $10 million per season?

In talking to Nellie this week here in Vegas, it doesn't matter if Monta Ellis can play the point guard or not.

    He's going to have to.

One of the things that is going to have to be accepted is that the Warriors don't have many other options. They like Carlos Arroyo, but he's too much of a pure point guard for the Warriors to really like because they want more of a combo guard (a bigger guy that can shoot, too). The team would also like Marco to develop as a PG as well.

A quick note on CJ Watson - the team does really like him, as he's developing nicely. He was always able to score, which we all know Nellie loves, and now that he's showing he can penetrate, get to the basket, and shoot a little bit, that might be a nice option off the bench for the Dubs.

Too bad it's just Summer League. Not sure how it'll translate in the NBA, but he did take on and fare well against DJ Augustin last night. Augustin will be earning minutes this year in Bobcats

Any possibility of the Warriors going after Starbury if he is released?

No. cz hes not a willling passer. He'll play one on five and get picked apart every time buy a savvy defender
    Even when winning is illogical.
Losing is still far from optional.

I think Monta is definitely a scorer first, but I don't think he'll go one-on-five like you say. He's a smarter player than people give him credit for - he knows how to find the angles needed to make the passes he'll need to make ..
