    Maarty Leunen a Pleasant Surprise

I have to be honest - prior to last night's game I had no idea what Maarty was about. There are so many new names to learn and so many teams coming through here that it gets to be a big blur after a few days. But last night Maarty had some very nice plays, including a game-winner that gave the Rockets a win after they trailed by 18 to Phoenix.

VIDEO: Exclusive interview with Maarty Leunen

He grew up on a dairy farm in Central Oregon - quite a story!

I heard in the draft press conference that Morey wanted to send him to Europe for a few years, develop some and bring him over.

He has good size, can shoot the rock. Him and Eliyahu developing can be very good for the Rockets future.

Found the article. This was on Rockets.com the day after the draft:

    http://www.nba.com/rockets/news/Rockets_select_Donte_Greene_J-276233-34.html

“Maarty will play overseas,” says Morey. “He’s someone we’ll keep the rights to. He’s a shooting, spacing four who we think has a chance down the road. We believe in spacing fours as an important asset. We have Steve Novak and he’ll be on the team at least the next year, but we feel like Maarty is someone who could potentially be a future bet at that spot as well.”

For what it's worth he's been the best on the team over the course of the two games they've played. I really like the kid.

He's hard not to like. I'm really optimistic about his chances to really help this team come 09-10. I just put up a feature article on Leunen, which can be read here.

Surprisingly so - first impression is he's another one of those white kids who never makes it to the NBA, but he's deceptively quick and crafty.

Hmmm, I would package Novak and Dorsey for a backup C.  Get Maaaaaarty on the roster!

Not a bad idea. I love Steve, but he's not cracking the lineup. Dorsey has some judgment issues based on him getting tossed from a game he wasn't in for excessive chatter from the bench. Frankly, though, the Rockets expect Dorsey to be their back-up C at least part-time this year.

Dorsey is 6'7", they expecting him to become another Ben Wallace?

Steve has to go. I said it when they signed him it was a bad idea (I was right on both him and Mike James). Good thing Adelman is smarter than Morey.

I've never spoken to Joey myself, but everyone I've talked to always has interesting things to say about him. I think putting him at center is something worth trying. He's going to block shots, rebound, and is capable of finishing around the rim. Behind Yao Ming they really just need energy, and I think he can provide it. I've got to hand it to Joey, getting kicked out of a game that you're not even suited up for is quite impressive.

Exactly the fact that hes willing to fight for a summer league teammate really shows passion. I do think that it is a sign that he will be a solid pro.

The reason Maccabi sucked this year is cuz they benched him.

The fact that Terrance freaking Morris took his starting spot is disgusting to me.

Terence Morris? Wow . . .he never quite panned out, did he? I'm reserving judgment on Dorsey until we see a little more of him.

I think it's more of a sign that he's Joey Dorsey rather than an indicator of pro success. Like I said before, Joey is interesting. He's definitely entertaining too. I heard he was talking about how Houston can get past Utah now cause they have him to put on Boozer and that he couldn't wait to go up against him on a Houston talk show. You would think after the Greg Oden debacle, where he called him out only to get destroyed by him, would have taught him a lesson.

Dorsey is definitely a confident guy. Getting thrown out for defending a teammate is one thing - getting thrown out because you're being loud and obnoxious is something else.

That's true, but the refs said he finally got ejected because he continued to beat the dead horse long after the play was over.
