SAY IT AINT SO. Landry Considering Offers From Overseas

    Jul 24, 2008 3:05 AM EST

Houston's Carl Landry may be the next NBA player to turn away offers from NBA teams to cash in overseas, his agent has told the Houston Chronicle.

"Carl would entertain all serious offers," Landry's agent, Buddy Baker, told Houston television station KRIV-TV on Wednesday. "There is serious interest in Carl by both other NBA teams and internationally."

On Wednesday former Hawks forward Josh Childress surprisingly made the jump from the NBA to Euroleague despite being wanted by Atlanta.

I'd love to say it ain't so, but it's absolutely so. There's a huge rift between Landry's agent and the Rockets - and as we saw yesterday, the money is really good overseas.

10 years ago landry probaly would have had to play overseas first before getting an NBA contract. Young underdeveloped big men often go overseas and flourish. The relationship between the Rockets and he are obviously not good but most of the FA dollars are now spent. Better for him to go somewhere he'll get minutes and $ and take another shot at the NBA next year when there is more $ available.

The Rockets actually have their entire MLE to use for Landry, and have it set aside in case they need to match someone else's offer. They're just trying to save some of it by holding out on Carl.

Given that Europe is now a factor, this "saving the MLE to match any offer to Carl" could become a failed strategy and we could be left with an MLE and no MLE-worthy players in the market. Perhaps bring Bonzi back?

I can see Bonzi coming back, for obvious reasons. Adelman has some kind of special affect on him that makes him better than he is under any other coach. That said, Landry is a tremendous talent with huge upside. The Rockets shouldn't let him slip away to Europe.
