Yes. Change to socialism. Not that there's anything wrong with that, what America becomes is a society with a burdgeoning middle class, less incentive to innovate and where government takes care of all. Again, for the good of the people I suppose, but the American dream will be changed to the road to serfdom.

    But congrats to President Obaka.

Socialism? If a few tax refunds to poor people=socialism, then we crossed that bridge decades ago.

President Obama will finally provide some actual leadership and intelligence to the white house and this nation. Something sorely missing for 8 years, and something the Republicans refused to even recognize as a problem.

One of the biggest things that will HOPEFULLY come out of this election is that the Republican party will stop cynically, nakedly PANDERING to the ultraconservative Christian right (I have no problem with a party trying to appeal to a group as their core, but offering up candidates like GW Bush and Sara Palin is giving a PETULANT CHILD what they are CRYING FOR, but NOT what they actually NEED).

They use "acceptance of Creationism/rejection of evolution" as a litmus test for nominees (In the primaries, they had the Republican candidates go in a circle and each one said that they supported Creation, and not evolution. Everyone was afraid to say anything bad about Creationism... Are you KIDDING ME???), but they don't bother giving out IQ tests.

Hopefully, the Republicans will throw out the old guard entirely, and fill it up with more progressive, intelligent, COMPETENT people.

Think about this: The worst president in US history, by concensus, is leaving the White House, and McCain as a running candidate, really can't say one bad thing about him other than maybe he made some mistakes (for fear of offending Bat$hit crazy neocons)... ridiculous.

That was a pretty funny part of the Republican primary debates. I thought the funniest part was when they were debating who blew Ronald Regan the most.

I wonder what Regan is thinking about this looking up from hell.

Regardless of what a person thinks about Presidementia, the little Ronald Reagan Jerk-off contest was certainly worth some laughs. Anything to distance themselves from Bush... without actually admitting he was a disgrace

It was because of this that McCain just never could talk straight... because the whole premise of his campaign was either schizophrenic... or a bald faced lie. You choose either:

McCain wanted to be the candidate of "CHANGE"... but how could he be the candidate of "change" when he refused to acknowledge that there was anything to change??? He talked about changing from "failed policies", but his policies were IDENTICAL... he just seemed to claim that HIS version wouldn't "fail". Palin would say some "blunders were made"... but she talked about them as if they were NOBODY'S fault. They just could NOT EXPLICITLY ADMIT that Bush's decisions were wrongheaded, stupid, or outright evil. According to McCain, NOBODY could have foreseen how bad some of these decisions, though many of us were kicking and screaming against them the whole way.

Yet, somehow McCain wants to be the agent of "change". HOW? He just wants to be LUCKIER? Because according to him, that's the only reason Bush is a failure. He apparently did everything RIGHT, he's just unlucky

which is why he had absolutely zero credibility, and by the end of the campaign, only about 1/2 of the respect I had for him before this election. His attacks and innuendo were laughable in his utter lack of enthusiasm and conviction in bringing up Ayers, etc. I guess that's actually good about McCain. He couldn't put his heart into such a disingenuous attack. Not his nature. Which is something to admire, in the end.

I think the biggest thing that happened with this election is the the US got a fesh start on the International relations front.  After Bush did everything he could to wreck America's image with poorly thought out foreign policies I think countries around the world think there's a new face to US policy.

When the Republicans jack up the deficit like there's no tomorrow, it makes me wonder if maybe they do think there's no tomorrow.  With folks like Bush and Palin, they may actually believe the federal debt won't have to be paid because the Final Days will be starting any time now.

    Re: PRESIDENT OBAMA!!!!

The real issue for the Republican Party is that all that pandering has taken them so far off course they don't know where to go next. They're actually considering running Sarah Palin in 2012, and while that must be a real relief to Obama, it's a sad testimony to state of the Republican Party.

I love Barack Obama and the spirit of unity with which he is approaching his Presidency. I love that he's intelligent, and forms his opinions based on evidence, rather than forming his opinion and then demanding facts to support it. Anyone who tells you America isn't a socialist country is blind. We were founded on socialist principles and we will always have them, as much as that ticks off the corporate folks. Public schools, city police and fire protection, the military, public roads . . .these are all examples of socialism, and we don't want to do away with any of them. Bush has tried, but every single time he privatized something it blew up in his face because he also deregulated.

You can't have a marketplace without rules. De-regulation is merely a tool for the rich to get richer short-term, while destroying the industry altogether long-term.

What we really need is a combination of the parties. We need to stop talking about marriage and abortion as political issues because they're not. We need a true conservative party talking about taking care of America before using other countries as profit centers (we call it "spreading democray"). We need a conservative party that actually debates issues instead of simply starting a war somewhere to bankrupt the government and thus prevent the use of government for the common good. I am drawn to the  Democrats because they are working to address real issues instead of working as hard as they can to bury their heads in the sand with corporate America's shovels.

My fervent prayer is that President Obama will help restore sanity to both sides of the political table.
