Anyone think that with Turriaff that Biedrins is expendable? I think they can get some really good value for him, start Turriaff and have Wright come off the bench.

The Warriors now have 15 guys on their roster, but Summer League studs CJ Watson and Anthony Morrow don't have guaranteed deals. The depth chart currently looks like this:

Ellis / Williams / Watson

Jackson / Azubuike / Belinelli / Morrow

Maggette / Randolph

Harrington / Wright / Hendrix

Biedrins / Turiaf / Perovic

Knowing how Nellis uses his guys, it's unlikely the Warriors play more than eight or nine guys .. so you'll see Ellis, Williams, Maggette, Azubuike, Harrington, Biedrins, and Turiaf a lot, with the occasional sprinkles of Wright and maybe Belinelli or Randolph.

I think they're tough enough inside and might use Hendrix and Turiaf more when they're getting beat up on the boards, but I just feel like the team should look into every possible deal for Harrington as far as getting back another star or a more versatile two-way player. There aren't many power forward versions of Ron Artest or Tayshaun Prince, but that's the kind of guy I think the Warriors should be looking into. Sadly, both seem available but neither can play the 4 .. but with Nellie? Who knows!

Of course, the main issue is that guys like that aren't readily available without giving up too much. I'd be willing to dangle Belinelli and a second rounder to sweeten the pot, but I can't even really put a finger on who the target should be.

Josh Smith in a S&T? That's tough because of BYC issues, and the Hawks look like they're driving a hard bargain for him anyway.

Okafor? Same issues and a worse fit.

Zach Randolph? Oh wait, I wanted someone who played defense .. but .. still .. maybe? He's certainly versatile and I'd rather have him than Harrington, even if that does mean losing Marco Belinelli.

Oye .. now I can't get Zach Randolph possibilities off of my mind .. Kosta + Belinelli + Harrington probably gets it done, but jeepers .. I'm upset with myself for not even cringing at the thought ..

The new Oklahoma City franchise has nicknamed itself the Thunder, according to a report Saturday on the web site of the city’s ABC affiliate.

Citing a source close to ownership, KOCO-TV reported that the “registrar for all of the NBA’s Internet domain names were reserved okcthunderbasketball.com and okcthunderbasketball.net on July 10,” suggesting that the franchise formerly known as the Seattle SuperSonics will soon be renamed.

Can Nellie Win COY?

This argument is useless if the Warriors don't make the playoffs, but when you consider what the Warriors had to deal with this season, I do really believe Nellie should be a candidate for the Coach of the Year Award. The Warriors haven't gotten any recognition (even though they Baron should've been on the All-Star team), so if Nellie pulls off a playoff berth, shouldn't he win this?

An interesting thought .. Nellie's option has been picked up by the squad, but he still may choose to retire. He's got one major reason to come back: he has a shot at becoming the all-time winningest coach in NBA history. Oh, and there's still that whole championship thing.

It'll be interesting to see if the melodrama that was last summer once again is something the franchise has to deal with. I'd hope Nellie resolves the issue quickly, decides to return, and goes and gets his rest in Maui while Mullin takes care of the draft, free agency, and re-signing Monta Ellis and Andris Biedrins.

Slap in the Face for Golden State

Although I understand that the West is full of talent, I think it's pretty disgusting that the Warriors are still not being respected as if they've proven nothing, when they clearly have. Baron Davis or Stephen Jackson not getting an All-Star nod is more of an indictment on the team/organization than it is about them as individuals. The prevailing theory among the media is that they've both burned bridges in the NBA and can't get coach support because of it, but I don't buy it.

This is about people still doubting what the Warriors are capable of. Now Baron Davis and Stephen Jackson want to prove them wrong.

Welcome Webber .. Again ..

So the team decided to go with old man Webber instead of old man Payton. I can't say I don't understand the rationale, but I just don't like the move because of his age and what I saw from him last year with the Pistons. He's slow (doesn't fit the Warriors) and doesn't bang around or play defense (which the Warriors needed), but I guess when you're a free-agent big man, you'll get your looks.

One thing that WILL be better to see, though, is the team's half court game develop. I don't know if Webber will make it down in time for the early offense (no, I'm not trying to be funny), but in the half court set, maybe some nice things will develop.

Look for our NBA-guru Ira Winderman's take on all this in the morning as well.

After cutting DJ Mbenga, the Warriors have called up CJ Watson of the NBDL.

He's a pretty good outside shooter and a so-so defender. This is a typical low-risk, high-reward type of deal. It's a pretty safe move for the next 10 days and we'll see if Watson can have an Azubuike-like impact.

Warriors Cut Mbenga - is Payton coming on board?

The Warriors decided to let go of DJ Mbenga .. it came as a surprise to me, at least, because people had mentioned that he may stick around and had a good shot of finishing the season with the team. He wasn't completely healthy - he told me on Friday that he was a few weeks away from getting his knee brace off. The team cut him before contracts become guaranteed, so they're saving a good amount of money by doing this.

It's possible that DJ is brought back on a 10-day contract, but the Warriors also decided to call up Kosta Perovic from the D-League - he'll basically get the PT that DJ got (almost none).

Reports have surfaced that the team is interested in Oakland native and Hall-of-Famer Gary Payton. Payton would give the team a legit backup to Baron now that Hudson is down, but you have to wonder how much he's got left in the tank. With the HEAT last season, Payton played 20 minutes a game .. he didn't shoot particularly well or rebound particularly well or score particularly much, but he did still set the table for others. Mullin said he doesn't want another guy that is injury prone, so brining in a guy in his late 30s could be a curious decision.

The team has also been linked to D-League stud CJ Watson, who was at Tennessee last year. That rumor is gaining momentum because of messsage boards, but we'll see how it turns out. I'm looking into it.

Warriors Rookies Preach Patience

After talking to Marco and Brandan Wright on Friday night, it seems like they're completely satisfied with the long-term goals of just getting better over time. That's not a bad thing at all - they're being patient and asking that everyone stays patient with them. They say they're improving and the coaching staff is echoing stuff like that.

The only thing it tells me is that these kids are really are a part of the Warriors' long-term plan. They have tremendous support and everyone I talked to mentioned that their work-ethic and steady improvement. For those of you expecting one of these rooks to get traded, you may want to consider otherwise. The team looks like they're willing to wait on these guys as they continue to grow.

Warriors Lose to Dallas, Look to Refocus

The national media is going to play this off as the Warriors "losing their edge" over the Mavericks. Although there are aspects of that which may be true, I tend to believe that teams have nights like this.

Report: Warriors Interested in Smush Parker

According to the Miami Herald, the Dubs are in the running for the services of Smush Parker:

There appears to be no shortage of potential destinations for Parker, who Riley confirmed has been shopped in trades in recent weeks.

Cleveland, Boston, Houston and Golden State are believed to be among the teams the Heat has talked with regarding a deal. Parker has missed the past 18 games since his Nov. 27 altercation with a female valet attendant at a Miami condo.

I know the Warriors need a backup point guard rather desperately, but I'm not sure this is the deal that needs to be made. Parker can provide time that will spell Baron, but I'd really be concerned with his track history and reputation around the league. The Warriors are a really tight-knit group and Parker hasn't been able to stick anywhere in his career - one year stints in most of his stops.

Basketball-wise, I can see why the Warriors would consider a move like this. Smush helps the team offensively, gives Monta exclusivity at the 2, and COULD play good defense if he puts his mind to it. He's athletic and long enough to be a good defender, just hasn't really put the effort into it. He's also pretty durable - doesn't miss many games to nagging injuries, which you know means he's playing through pain every so often. Durability would be really nice for the Warriors!

The fact that he has a player option for next season (and likely means he'll be sticking around) is another area of concern .. the Warriors should be keeping as many options open to potentially keep Barnes, Baron, Monta, and Biedrins. It'd be sad to see them ALL go because Smush takes up payroll.

6 in a row Baby! Hottest team in the NBA. Rated 8th best team after a 0-6 start. We have gone from last place to 2nd place in what, two weeks? How sweet it is. I know it is only Dec. but we really have something going here. If we beat the Magic, and I believe we will beat the Magic, we will have to be considered even higher than the 8th best team as the Magic are rated #3. i believe we can win our division, our conference and the title this year.

Hard to believe I am the first "Believer " to post here. I can deal with that however. I know that before long, if the True Believers don't find me the Band-wagoners will. Let me say this loud and clear. We are going all the way this year. I believe we can contend for the title and that is where I expect us by seasons end.
