    Dorsey in the Game

Joey Dorsey is playing tonight without a contract, which is not unusual for summer league. He's going against Tractor Traylor right now, which is a pretty big task for your first time out. 5 rebounds in 5 minutes in the first quarter . . .Greene has 10 points.

    Re: Dorsey in the Game

Pretty nice performance from Dorsey tonight in his debut. Because he came in shorter than expected it's important for him to show that he can rebound at this level. He did a nice job showing that tonight with 14 rebounds. It wasn't against any softies either. Tractor and Hickson know how to throw their weight around.

Tractor throwing his weight around can kill a man.

He did a nice job rebounding, but he was definitely - in the words of Rockets VP Sam Hinkie - " a little rough." He's a huge kid and is a funny interview - video coming soon - but he has some timing issues and needs some work on his offensive game. That said, he had a decent first showing for a summer league game. Will be interesting to see how he does in the next one.

Seems a little undersized to play the center. And won't see much time at PF with Scola/Landry/Hayes. If he isn't traded for a bigman, he'd probably be sent to Europe. Too crowded in Houston for him.

Definitely undersized to play the 5, but has the strength and width to be a monster 4. That said, he's a long way from cracking the lineup according to the Rockets' braintrust. He's got a lot of work to do, and given that he's already played four years of college I'm not sure how much he'll really improve.

He seems like a good player, he is just on the wrong team. We are loaded with 4s.

If they can trade him for a decent backup 5, I'll be more than happy.

    Re: Dorsey in the Game

The only real reason to be optimistic about any more improvement from Dorsey is that he's just a year into making some major changes to his game. Being a defensive force isn't something that he focused on his entire career at Memphis. In time maybe he can get to the point where he can warrant time solely based on the impact he can have defensively. Is he worth holding onto when you've already got proven NBA players Chuck Hayes, Luis Scola, and Carl Landry? Probably not.

I think it hinges on Landry. If the Rockets can get that done Dorsey is superfluous. If they can't . . .they need a move. Either way they need a back-up center.
