Celts resign House, TAllen for 2 years

    From Marc Spears on Boston.com:

The Celtics lost James Posey to the open market, but today they were able to retain a couple of other free-agent reserves from their championship season.

The Celtics agreed to terms with guards Eddie House and Tony Allen to return, general manager Danny Ainge announced today. Both will get two-year contracts (though House's second year is a player option, according to an NBA source). House's deal was made using a portion of the team's $5.5 million mid-level exception. According to the source, House will make $2.7 million next season and $2.9 million the year after if he excercises his option.

House, who will enter his second season with the team, averaged 7.5 points and 19 minutes per game during the regular season, but those averages dropped to 2.5 points and just under 8 minutes in the postseason.

Allen agreed to a two-year guaranteed deal paying $2.5 million each year, according to a league source. Since the Celtics had Allen's Bird Rights, they didn't have to use the mid-level exception to re-sign him. Allen, who will enter his fifth season in green, averaged 6.6 points and just over 18 minutes per game during the regular season and 1.3 points in about 4 minutes per game in the playoffs.

Assuming the Celtics sign draft picks Giddens and Walker, they will have one roster spot left and about $2.8 million left from the MLE to shop with.  They still need a true small forward to back up Pierce.  House's agent Bartlestein says the Celtics are interested in his client Devean George.  They are probably interested in half a dozen guys right now, including the names we've already heard like Mo Evans, Bonzi Wells, and Bostjan Nachbar.

     Nachbar is going to Europe.

Mo Evans would really be a great pickup. I am expecting Bonzi's name to come up. Hell if you have any exprings and firsts you can always trade for Artest and rent him out for a year lol.

There's no way for the Celtics to trade for Artest.  They don't have the salaries to match up unless they gave up Perkins.  The Celts have the Big Three making huge money, Perkins, Scalabrine, House and TAllen making $4 million to $2.5 million, and a bunch of guys on rookie contracts.

I'd prefer to get Mo Evans if he'd sign for the money.  He can play small forward and hit the kickout three pointers.

Agreed Evens would be the best choice. Athletic, can hit a spot up 3, will scrap and play some D.

    Bonzi? No thanks

Devan George Double no thanks. He's hurt most of the time and when he isn't I think his days of being even slightly useful although if you gacve him enough minutes he would produce as well as Marion so he might be a barginWink

Crap.  Mo Evans is signing a three-year deal with Golden State.  For less money (average per year) than the $2.8 million the Celtics could offer him.  At this rate, it may come down to Bonzi or Devean.  Barnes has already signed with Phoenix.  Also a report today that Ryan Gomes' agent is telling teams he wants a full MLE.     Cool

As long as Pierce plays 48 minutes a game for 82 games, plus playoffs, the Celtics will be all right.  Second round pick Bill Walker is the only other natural small forward on the roster (presuming they sign him).  Otherwise, they're going small with Ray Allen (6'5"), Tony Allen (6'4"), or J.R. Giddens (6'4"), or going big with El Putrifico (6'9" Scalabrine).

Ryan Gomes is good but not an option. The TWolves will probably match anything below the MLE.

Read in Hoopsworld that Evans deal not yet sealed with the Warriors because he wants more money.  Maybe there's still hope for the C's.  Otherwise, I think it would be down to Bonzi.  I go for Bonzi over George.

Looks like Mo Evans is back in play.  He demanded more money from the Warriors, and they decided that if they were going to have to pay close to $3 million they might just as well match Kelanna Azubuike's offer sheet from the Clippers.  I gotta say, though, I didn't know until yesterday that Evans is already 30.  He played in Europe for a while before he came to the NBA.

I was a bit surprised Barnes signed for so little but I guess he figuers its an investment that might get him a bigger contract. He may start for the Suns (to limit Hills minutes) and with Nash dishing to him, decent minutes and some open jumpers from Shaq Amrae kickouts he should post better numbers than being a role player off the celtics bench.

Evans has now gone to the Hawks.

Sooo I guess it comes down to Bonzi or Shawn Marion II.
